Jameson Irish Whiskey Review

Jameson Irish Whiskey ReviewHaving seen Flogging Molly perform in Nashville a couple of weeks ago, it occurred to me that I haven’t reviewed any Irish Whiskeys. While there are several very good brands out of Ireland, Jameson Irish Whiskey is hands down the most well known. Established in 1780, Jameson Irish Whiskey has grown to one of the most well-known and respected brand names around the world. The fact that Jameson sells more than 31 million bottles of whiskey per year means that a lot of people like Jameson. A lot! There isn’t much that I can write about that Wikipedia or the official Jameson website doesn’t already cover. That being the case, let’s just get to the Jameson Irish Whiskey review, shall we?

Packaging:
Of course, everyone knows the Jameson label. That’s to be expected when you sell as much whiskey as they do. It’s a design that is as classy as it is classic. The bottle is a green as the green isle itself. Another detail that I love is the serial number right on the neck of each bottle.

Nose:
Floral up front followed by a nice, sweet barley aroma, a little butter, a hint of chocolate and zero alcohol scent…..smooth. Jameson has its own flavor, even compared to other Irish whiskey. Maybe its the malted and unmalted barley combination. It could be that and the triple distillation process. Whatever it is, I hope they don’t ever change it!

Taste:
Very similar to the nose…Barley up front with a floral, oak, and a spice that I just couldn’t put my finger on. Even searching through the spice cabinet didn’t help. If and when I figure it out I will update this post. And very similar to the nose, there was very little alcohol taste or bite. Jameson is one of the smoothest whiskeys I have ever had.

Finish:
The taste fades quickly to leave more barley and a faint spicy, sweet tail. With that, I really wanted another pour. But I’m working so I will leave it at one pour for now.
Jameson Irish Whiskey Label
Something else is the JamesonWhiskey.com website. It is extremely well done with a ton of information about the product, the history of Jameson, the distillation process and more. Take some time and check it out.

Jameson Irish Whiskey gets a 9.4 out of 10 Noses!
Jameson is one of my favorite whiskeys. It has been for quite a while and they have yet to let me down. And at around $24 locally, it is also a good buy and at 80 proof it isn’t too strong.
